The oil system of a steam turbine generator unit, like a general hydraulic system, transmits and controls energy through pressure oil in a closed circuit. Oil is both a lubricant and a medium for transmitting energy. The quality of the oil will directly affect the safe and economic operation of the steam turbine generator set. The excessive content of mechanical impurities in the oil may cause wear on the shaft neck, wear on the bearing shells, and jamming of the speed control system. In mild cases, it can cause the operating load of the unit to swing, the synchronizer cannot be accurately adjusted, and in severe cases, it can lead to the failure of the emergency safety device, resulting in a speeding accident.
There are many reasons why the particle size of turbine oil exceeds the standard. Generally speaking, the turbine oil system is susceptible to contamination from the following six aspects:
(1) The pollutants left by the oil system components and speed control components during manufacturing, assembly, and overhaul processes.
(2) The sealing performance of the main fuel tank is poor, and pollutants in the air around the tank are prone to invade the tank, enter the oil system, and pollute the oil quality.
(3) Normal wear and tear of various components of the governor, hydraulic pumps, bearings, and oil supply system.
(4) The unit's loose shaft seal caused steam leakage in the steam seal system, and steam entered the oil system, causing water to be present in the oil.
(5) Insufficient flushing after installation and maintenance of the oil system. During the installation and maintenance of the unit, due to the dirty construction site, it is easy for pollutants to enter the oil system.
(6) During transportation and storage, the oil drum and refueling pipe of the new steam turbine oil are mixed with particles and moisture, which can easily cause pollution.
